چکیده

Abstract: Aim The aim of the present study was to evaluate potential soluble reactive phosphorus (SRP) sorption three natural P adsorbents (Luvisol, Planosol, and Scheelite tailing) from Brazil’s semiarid region. Methods adsorption tests were done under pH 8 conditions with Lanthanum-Modified Bentonite (LMB). effect humic substances on SRP also tested. For this, Luvisol Planosol incinerated reduce their components, new done. water evaluated. Results high at 8. Of adsorbents, achieved highest maximum capacity (Q) 17.5 mg g-1, followed by tailing (8.3 g-1) (7.7 g-1). tailing, LMB increased water. After treatment substances, showed a Q 22.3 g-1 while produced 11.1mg g-1. Reducing amount potentiated process in Planosol. However, isotherms untreated treated have not reached equilibrium therefore may be overestimated. Conclusions precipitation probably main mechanism, being more expressive than adsorption. most promising material for eutrophic environments because it is alkaline, calcium-rich, this will remain anoxic conditions. It has small organic matter and, consequently, contains less substances. quality clay important quantity process.

Phosphorus control is critical to mitigating eutrophication.

T he Midwest floods of 2008 added more than just water to the region’s lakes, reservoirs, and rivers. Runoff from farms and towns carries a heavy load of silt, nutrients, and other pollutants. The nutrients trigger blooms of algae, which taint drinking water. Death and decay of the algae depletes oxygen, kills fish and bottom-dwelling animals, and thereby creates ‘‘dead zones’’ in the body of w...

Dewatered alum sludge: a potential adsorbent for phosphorus removal.

Alum sludge refers to the by-product from the processing of drinking water in water treatment works. In this study, groups of batch experiments were designed to identify the characteristics of dewatered alum sludge for phosphorus adsorption. Air-dried alum sludge (moisture content 10.2%), which was collected from a water treatment works in Dublin, was subjected to artificial P-rich wastewater a...

Benthic Filter Feeding: A Natural Eutrophication Control

The importance of the benthic filter feeding community as a natural control on eutrophication is considered. The important environmental factors favorable for such a control are relatively shallow water depths and a dense benthic filter feeding commmunity of small animals. The criteria are summarized in the equivalence of the water recycling time, t, for the benthic community and the time const...

Study of the Phosphorus Sorption Behaviour in the Cultivated and Virgin Soils of Khoy Region

To study the behaviour of phosphorus (P) sorption in the agricultural soils of Khoy region and the effect of long-term cultural management with the application of poultry manure on the P sorption parameters, bath experiments were carried out with 16 soil samples (8 cultivated and 8 virgin soils) and 9 initial P concentrations from 0 to 30 mg L-1 in 0.01M CaCl2 as a background solution. After eq...
